²ã?«衤½惩穃譍¸åè齿觅ææ厩瘗¼糓è园陌撌渲³ç鍦¸荦瘝饵½惩穃末å嚗罚糓銝å衤荦瘝饵½惩穃末å嚗煺½惩煾¦¨睃¾槟¼烐糓雿惩爸è剹	²Speak to all the men of Sichem: whether is better for you that seventy men all the sons of Jerobaal should rule over you, or that one man should rule over you? And withal consider that I am your bone, and your flesh.
³隞¯滩穃停æ隞嗘º店å蝯¦è齿觅ææ厩瘗¼»硋¿ååé燵敶潮»䁅见耻嚗?删隞硋牧嚗?»Ⅱæ糓æ穃¼¼	³And his mother's brethren spoke of him to all the men of Sichem, all these words, and they inclined their hearts after Abimelech, saying: He is our brother:
⁴隞硋煾¾撌渲唾²嗪»鹱撱蠘ㄐæ嚉鈭¸¡é杉蝯虫»吔¼é燵敶潮»䁅见耻撠梁鍂é嗘º偦杉å鈭¸鈭è襔ç鞈港¹见¾附·罚辶隞硔	⁴And they gave him seventy weight of silver out of the temple of Baalberith: wherewith he hired to himself men that were needy, and vagabonds, and they followed him.
⁵隞硋䞶?æ硋¼麾隞?阆芸振鋆∴¼?銁銝憛羓é銝撌梁¼¼?朗è园陌撌渲³ç鍦¸荦é畾箔º¼?蘨å?銝è园陌撌渲³ç匮摮蝝 嚗?删隞譍º丝靘	⁵And he came to his father's house in Ephra, and slew his brethren the sons of Jerobaal, seventy men, upon one stone: and there remained only Joatham the youngest son of Jerobaal, who was hidden.
⁶æ䲰æ糓è齿觅ææ厩瘗穃鞎萘鹱蝐喟¾鈭粹é?丝靘¼?銁è齿觅ç´敹苌¢穃漤琏菜届璅嫣¸页¼?«é燵敶潮»䁅见耻çç卝	⁶And all the men of Sichem were gathered together, and all the families of the city of Mello: and they went and made Abimelech king, by the oak that stood in Sichem.
⁷æ劐荦撠迨鈭见迄鈭蝝 嚗蝝 撠曹¸ºé仪暺举撅梢 ¼?«坔銁é鋆∴¼?«䁅å睲»硋穃牧嚗è齿觅ç瘗¼?«衤½惩æ¼?予銝台¹蠘雿惩¼	⁷This being told to Joatham, he went and stood on the top of mount Garizim: and lifting up his voice, he cried, and said: Hear me, ye men of Sichem, so may God hear you.
⁸æ劐¸甈∴¼?䔿璅寡¦绦软衤¸璅宁隞硋页¼?停撠齿©¬邦隤迎¼期«衤½½穃页¼	⁸The trees went to anoint a king over them: and they said to the olive tree: Reign thou over us.
⁹璈¬邦å䂿磰牧嚗纸荦ç鍂æ朱靘蝳桃¥¼?°´荦嚗?é刊¦烐琏瘝对¼??绦æ硋銁ç䔿璅嫣¹衤¸¼	⁹And it answered: Can I leave my fatness, which both gods and men make use of, to come to be promoted among the trees?
¹⁰ç䔿璅孵?°滨è?æ邦隤迎¼期«衤½¾½穃页¼	¹⁰And the trees said to the fig tree: Come thou and reign over us.
¹¹çè?æ邦å䂿磰牧嚗é刊¦烐崖æ㗇条?¾举頣¼??绦æ硋銁ç䔿璅嫣¹衤¸¼	¹¹And it answered them: Can I leave my sweetness, and my delicious fruits, and go to be promoted among the other trees?
¹²ç䔿璅孵?°滩鸡è邦隤迎¼期«衤½¾½穃页¼	¹²And the trees said to the vine: Come thou and reign over us.
¹³è鸡è邦撠勖䂿磰牧嚗鳘é埝¨¥硺荦嚗?é刊¦烐琏ç嚗??绦æ硋銁ç䔿璅嫣¹衤¸¼	¹³And it answered them: Can I forsake my wine, that cheereth God and men, and be promoted among the other trees?
¹⁴æ䲰æ糓ç䔿璅孵°滩£䁅牧嚗期«衤½¾½穃页¼	¹⁴And all the trees said to the bramble: Come thou and reign over us.
¹⁵è£睃°齿邦æ銁蝑娪橒¼期雿惩罚¡条«睲½靝½惩页¼?¾菱嚗熔å銁æ銝页¼炏å¼?敹¾噼£睃鍦嚗?墧»暺毁憳©ç¦蹱銁ã	¹⁵And it answered them: If indeed you mean to make me king, come ye and rest under my shadow: but if you mean it not, let fire come out from the bramble, and devour the cedars of Libanus.
¹⁶çå銁嚗?½惩«é燵敶潮»䁅见耻çç页¼?¦靝½惩ª滨雿蠘ª䭾迤ç凒嚗?¦靝½惩ª滨æ糓å¾ºè园陌撌渲³å?»振æ¼?¦靝½惩ª滨雿惩煾蹱见銵?º页¼?°滚¾丝隞碶¸æ软讠笔箲嚗?â	¹⁶Now therefore if you have done well, and without sin in appointing Abimelech king over you, and have dealt well with Jerobaal, and with his house, and have made a suitable return for the benefits of him, who fought for you,
¹⁷å删å糓æ?阆芰雿惩睲½?è?崖ç¼?½惩眏蝐喳吨璆æ衤叶æ穃靘	¹⁷And exposed his life to dangers, to deliver you from the hands of Madian,
¹⁸çè?½惩睲»å㭱靘滚°齿?阆芰振æ¼?銁銝憛羓é銝捏鈭»鍦¸荦嚗?«衤»硋岷憟喟鍦é燵敶潮»䁅见耻çè齿觅å瘗页¼?删隞糓雿惩¼笔â	¹⁸And you are now risen up against my father's house, and have killed his sons seventy men upon one stone, and have made Abimelech the son of his handmaid king over the inhabitants of Sichem, because he is your brother:
¹⁹隞予愦靝½惩ª滨隞亦蠘ª䭾迤ç凒撠滚¾ºè园陌撌渲³å?»振æ¼?暻潘¼?½惩穃停å é燵敶潮»䁅见耻è?¨菱嚗¸?»碶¹笔½惩?¨¼	¹⁹If therefore you have dealt well, and without fault with Jerobaal, and his house, rejoice ye this day in Abimelech, and may he rejoice in you.
²⁰銝滨嚗?¡条驱é燵敶潮»䁅见耻ç䔄å嚗?墧»è齿觅ç瘗穃鞎萘鹱蝐喟¾嚗¹罚¡条驱è齿觅ç瘗穃鞎萘鹱蝐喟¾ç䔄å嚗?墧»é燵敶潮»䁅见耻嚗	²⁰But if unjustly: let fire come out from him, and consume the inhabitants of Sichem, and the town of Mello: and let fire come out from the men of Sichem, and from the town of Mello, and devour Abimelech.
²¹隞亘¾蝝 å韏堆¼??鞎萘?å绦鈭¼?½誩銁é鋆∴¼?隞åé燵敶潮»䁅见耻ã	²¹And when he had said thus he fled, and went into Bera: and dwelt there for fear of Abimelech his brother.
²²é燵敶潮»䁅见耻瘝饵隞亥å銝匧侨ã	²²So Abimelech reigned over Israel for three years.
²³憭拐蜓雿踵蟡鲉滚銁é燵敶潮»䁅见耻åè齿觅å瘗睲叶é橒¼è齿觅ç瘗睲噶è?ºé燵敶潮»䁅见耻嚗	²³And the Lord sent a very evil spirit between Abimelech and the inhabitants of Sichem: who began to detest him,
²⁴阆驱拙°è园陌撌渲³銝见鍦鞟蔽銵?¼?°»硋¡甇豢䲰隞硋¼é燵敶潮»䁅见耻嚗?删æ糓隞捏摰喃º»硋¼¹飞æ䲰è齿觅ç瘗¼?删隞硋烐㦛曌枏䠀隞捏摰唾撌梁¼麄	²⁴And to leave the crime of the murder of the seventy sons of Jerobaal, and the shedding of their blood upon Abimelech their brother, and upon the rest of the princes of the Sichemites, who aided him.
²⁵è齿觅å瘗å齿»吔¼?停å銁撅梢 ¸身銝衤¼誩嚗?阔æ䭾æ㕑楝é»硋煾鋆∠荦嚗劐荦撠嗘º见å羓策é燵敶潮»䁅见耻ã	²⁵And they set an ambush against him on the top of the mountains: and while they waited for his coming, they committed robberies, taking spoils of all that passed by: and it was told Abimelech.
²⁶éæå²嘥¾ç鍦å燵è³å?»硋?雠荦é驱坔?è齿觅嚗è齿觅ç±°«煺缣隞台º»吔¼	²⁶And Gaal the son of Obed came with his brethren, and went over to Sichem. And the inhabitants of Sichem taking courage at his coming,
²⁷隞硋睲噶å?ç视éè鸡è¼?成é¼?蟡脲¼??隞硋¥䞶»蠘ㄐå??嘅¼?¹笔垍葱鈭é燵敶潮»䁅见耻ã	²⁷Went out into the fields, wasting the vineyards, and treading down the grapes: and singing and dancing they went into the temple of their god, and in their banquets and cups they cursed Abimelech.
²⁸å²嘥¾ç鍦å燵è³隤迎¼é燵敶潮»䁅见耻æ糓隤堆¼?穃è齿觅鈭箸糓隤堆¼?穃«蠘府æ滢º衤»吔¼蠘±?¸齿糓è园陌撌渲³ç鍦?®睃摱å郊è³嚗?府æ滢ºè齿觅ç§讠¥å?ç?ç¾?荦å¼穃隞暻潸¦滢ºé燵敶潮»䁅见耻嚗	²⁸And Gaal the son of Obed cried: Who is Abimelech, and what is Sichem, that we should serve him? Is he not the son of Jerobaal, and hath made Zebul his servant ruler over the men of Emor the father of Sichem? Why then shall we serve him?
²⁹æ銝滚¾烾嗵参憪㮖漱æ䲰æ烐衤叶嚗?末æé燵敶潮»䁅见耻é膄æ剹¦°é燵敶潮»䁅见耻隤迎¼¢墧晷雿删»漤驱菱嚗	²⁹Would to God that some man would put this people under my hand, that I might remove Abimelech out of the way. And it was said to Abimelech: Gather together the multitude of an army, and come.
³⁰å郊è³å°㕑å?å²嘥¾ç鍦å燵è³ç店嚗?之ç䔄敹踵¼	³⁰For Zebul the ruler of the city, hearing the words of Gaal, the son of Obed, was very angry,
³¹é梶䔄雿辑绦阆见銁é燵擳舐麐çé燵敶潮»䁅见耻隤迎¼?页¼å²嘥¾ç鍦å燵è³å?»?譍荦嚗?¾?è齿觅嚗?穃å滚½	³¹And sent messengers privately to Abimelech, saying: Behold Gaal the son of Obed is come into Sichem with his brethren, and endeavoureth to set the city against thee.
³²æ隞亦å銁雿惩?·罚辶雿删荦憭ㄐ阆丝靘¼?衤¼誩銁ç视é橒¼	³²Arise therefore in the night with the people that is with thee and he hid in the field:
³³æ予ææ膥憭芷蒾銝å靘¼?停æå汿訜隞硋?辶驱硺»荦å靘æ½䭾¼?½删讠举见憟踝¼?停æ举见撠滢»䀝»硔	³³And betimes in the morning at sun rising set upon the city. And when he shall come out against thee with his people, do to him what thou shalt be able.
³⁴é燵敶潮»䁅见耻é?æ㕑·罚辶隞荦憭刊丝頨恬¼?½偦¼?°滩è齿觅閮凋¸见衤¼讹	³⁴Abimelech therefore arose with all his army by night, and laid ambushes near Sichem in four places.
³⁵ç訜å²嘥¾ç鍦å燵è³å靘¼?«坔銁åå藁æ¼é燵敶潮»䁅见耻靘辑辶驱硺»荦驱䞶衤¼雠æ䲮å靘¼	³⁵And Gaal the son of Obed went out, and stood in the entrance of the gate of the city. And Abimelech rose up, and all his army with him from the places of the ambushes.
³⁶å燵è³銝阆钅嗘º荦撠勖°å郊è³隤迎¼?页¼?劐荦驱䞶控é ¸衤¾¼å郊è³å䂿»牧嚗?½删贝¦见控敶梧¼?炊隞亦æ糓鈭绰¼	³⁶And when Gaal saw the people, he said to Zebul: Behold a multitude cometh down from the mountains. And he answered him: Thou seest the shadows of the mountains as if they were the heads of men, and this is thy mistake.
³⁷å燵è³æè堒?牧嚗?页¼?劐荦驱鲉«睃å靘¼??劐¸é窒撌怠ㄚ璈⊥邦é㮖¸滢¾	³⁷Again Gaal said: Behold there cometh people down from the middle of the land, and one troop cometh by the way that looketh towards the oak.
³⁸å郊è³撠滢»牧嚗å銁雿删藁å銁é鋆∴¼煺¸齿糓雿䭾㦛隤芷¼é燵敶潮»䁅见耻æ糓隤堆¼?¦穃烐滢º衤»吔¼罚嗘¸齿糓雿䭾頛閗¦荦å¼毺å銁隢衤½惩å绦ææ㮖»菱嚗	³⁸And Zebul said to him: Where is now thy mouth wherewith thou saidst? Who is Abimelech that we should serve him? Is not this the people which thou didst despise? Go out, and fight against him.
³⁹å燵è³撠勖銁è齿觅å瘗睲¹见滚å绦嚗?æé燵敶潮»䁅见耻嚗	³⁹So Gaal went out in the sight of the people of Sichem, and fought against Abimelech,
⁴⁰å虾æ糓é燵敶潮»䁅见耻銝餈卖»吔¼?»硋停å銁隞㚚å漤·睲º¼凒å?åæ㕑迂憭鈭∠荦ã	⁴⁰Who chased and put him to flight, and drove him to the city: and many were slain of his people, even to the gate of the city:
⁴¹隞亘¾é燵敶潮»䁅见耻å䞶?é燵擳舐麐嚗å郊è³撠å燵è³å?»?譍荦頞閗粥嚗?¦迫隞硋睲½誩銁è齿觅ã	⁴¹And Abimelech sat down in Ruma: but Zebul drove Gaal, and his companions out of the city, and would not suffer them to abide in it.
⁴²蝚砌º?予ææ膥嚗?荦瘗穃?ç视é馆ㄐå绦嚗?劐荦å迄鈭é燵敶潮»䁅见耻嚗	⁴²So the day following the people went out into the field. And it was told Abimelech.
⁴³隞䲰æ糓æ撌梁荦å½靝¸厂¼?㙈隞硋穃衤¼誩銁ç视é橒¼»撌梁的æ¼?訜隞贝¦讠参憪枏¾䞶馆ㄐå靘¼?停銵嗪绦嚗?捏鈭»硋¼	⁴³And he took his army, and divided it into three companies, and laid ambushes in the fields. And seeing that the people came out of the city, he arose and set upon them,
⁴⁴ç訜æé燵敶潮»䁅见耻è·罚辶隞»漤¡嗪绦嚗?½誩å藁嚗??åé¡嘥视é梶䔿鈭绰¼?捏鈭»硋㻫	⁴⁴With his own company, assaulting and besieging the city: whilst the two other companies chased the enemies that were scattered about the field.
⁴⁵é銝憭抬¼é燵敶潮»䁅见耻æ㟲憭拇æ㯄å¼?举銝页¼?捏鈭叶ç±°¼?举¯嚗?雴¸厌ã	⁴⁵And Abimelech assaulted the city all that day: and took it, and killed the inhabitants thereof, and demolished it, so that he sowed salt in it.
⁴⁶è齿觅蝣匧岁鋆∠荦è阆迨鈭页¼?停頨唇?撌渲唾²嗪»鹱撱蠘ㄐç蝛渲ㄐã	⁴⁶And when they who dwelt in the tower of Sichem had heard this, they went into the temple of their god Berith where they had made a covenant with him, and from thence the place had taken its name, and it was exceeding strong.
⁴⁷æ劐荦å迄é燵敶潮»䁅见耻嚗?荦瘗煾è銁è齿觅蝣匧岁åãé燵敶潮»䁅见耻å?·罚辶隞荦撠曹¸ºå肽喳撅梧¼	⁴⁷Abimelech also hearing that the men of the tower of Sichem were gathered together,
⁴⁸é燵敶潮»䁅见耻æ贝ㄐæ嚉è¸æ鑘é嚗? 滢º¸æ觅璅寞嘅¼?嚉韏瑚¾å銁è銝¼?驱?·罚辶隞荦隤迎¼?½惩睲½靝»暻潘¼?½惩睲¹蠘¶訫翰ç璅?绦雿頣¼	⁴⁸Went up into mount Selmon he and all his people with him: and taking an axe, he cut down the bough of a tree, and laying it on his shoulder and carrying it, he said to his companions: What you see me do, do you out of hand.
⁴⁹æ䲰æ糓ç䔿鈭粹å 滢º觅璅寞嘅¼?辶èé燵敶潮»䁅见耻æ邦æ嘥 銁å蝛港¸¼?銁å蝛港¸»硺º嚗?䲰æ糓è齿觅蝣匧岁鋆⊥æ厩荦é甇台º¼?琸憟喟´劐¸å	⁴⁹So they cut down boughs from the trees, every man as fast as he could, and followed their leader. And surrounding the fort they set it on fire: and so it came to pass that with the smoke and with the fire a thousand persons were killed, men and women together, of the inhabitants of the tower of Sichem.
⁵⁰甇文¾é燵敶潮»䁅见耻驱ç鹱鞎肽篬å绦嚗?®厩æç鹱鞎肽篬嚗?¹煺½娍纸ºå汿	⁵⁰Then Abimelech departing from thence came to the town of Thebes, which he surrounded and besieged with his army.
⁵¹å銁éå叶æ劐¸摨批 ç¢匧岁嚗?府å举æ厩瘗¼?琸ç琸憟喳戊é頝穃?é鋆∟熔é嚗?靝¸嚗?¸?蝣匧岁é ¸	⁵¹And there was in the midst of the city a high tower, to which both the men and the women were fled together, and all the princes of the city, and having shut and strongly barred the gate, they stood upon the battlements of the tower to defend themselves.
⁵²é燵敶潮»䁅见耻靘?蝣匧岁å齿æ橒¼訜隞粥餈¢匧岁éå藁嚗?¦çç埝¼	⁵²And Abimelech coming near the tower, fought stoutly: and approaching to the gate, endeavoured to set fire to it:
⁵³æ劐¸å见岫鈭箸衤¸衤º¸憛羓ㄗç嚗?迤è氜å銁é燵敶潮»䁅见耻é銝¼?梶¢º»è钅爸ã	⁵³And behold a certain woman casting a piece of a millstone from above, dashed it against the head of Abimelech, and broke his skull.
⁵⁴隞亘¿坔㙈æ隞硋嘑æ毺°穃侨嚗?睲»牧嚗?雿删畾箔º菱嚗滚¾荦雓«牧嚗纸¸å见戊摮鼗捏鈭»吔¼漤撠穃侨撠梁鍂åå?甇台º»硔	⁵⁴And he called hastily to his armourbearer, and said to him: Draw thy sword, and kill me: lest it should be said that I was slain by a woman. He did as he was commanded, and slew him.
⁵⁵隞亥å鈭箔¸阆é燵敶潮»䁅见耻甇台º¼?硺º摰呜	⁵⁵And when he was dead, all the men of Israel that were with him, returned to their homes.
⁵⁶æ䲰æ糓憭拐蜓å驱拐ºé燵敶潮»䁅见耻撠滢»?阆芣銵?鈭页¼?删隞捏鈭撌梁¸见¼¼	⁵⁶And God repaid the evil, that Abimelech had done against his father, killing his seventy brethren.
⁵⁷銝虫¸予銝台¹è齿觅鈭个¸å銵?飞å銁隞硋撌梁銝¼蹱见è园陌撌渲³ç鍦蝝 ç©¼?¹厂©堒銁隞硋澈銝	⁵⁷The Sichemites also were rewarded for what they had done, and the curse of Joatham the son of Jerobaal came upon them.
