箴言 Proverbs
1我儿,不要忘了我的法律,该诚心恪守我的诫命, 1My son, forget not my law, and let thy heart keep my commandments.
2因为这样能使你延年益寿,也能增加你的康宁。 2For they shall add to thee length of days, and years of life and peace.
3不要让慈祥和忠实离弃你,要将她们系在你的颈上,刻在你的心版上; 3Let not mercy and truth leave thee, put them about thy neck, and write them in the tables of thy heart:
4这样,你在天主和世人面前,必获得宠幸和恩爱。 4And thou shalt find grace and good understanding before God and men.
5你应全心信赖上主,总不要依赖自己的聪明; 5Have confidence in the Lord with all thy heart, and lean not upon thy own prudence.
6应步步体会上主,他必修平你的行径。 6In all thy ways think on him, and he will direct thy steps.
7不要自作聪明,应敬畏主,远避邪恶; 7Be not wise in thy own conceit: fear God, and depart from evil:
8如此,你的身体必会康健,你的骨骼也会舒适。 8For it shall be health to thy navel, and moistening to thy bones.
9应以你的财物和一切初熟之物,去尊崇上主; 9Honour the Lord with thy substance, and give him of the first of all thy fruits:
10这样,你的仓廪必充满粮食,你的榨酒池必盈溢新酒。 10And thy barns shall be filled with abundance, and thy presses shall run over with wine.
11我儿,不要轻视上主的惩戒,也不要厌恶他的谴责, 11My son, reject not the correction of the Lord: and do not faint when thou art chastised by him:
12因为上主谴责他所爱的,有如父亲谴责他的爱子。 12For whom the Lord loveth, he chastiseth: and as a father in the son he pleaseth himself.
13寻得智慧和获取睿智的人是有福的, 13Blessed is the man that findeth wisdom and is rich in prudence:
14因为赚得智慧胜于赚得银钱;智慧的果实胜于纯金。 14The purchasing thereof is better than the merchandise of silver, and her fruit than the chiefest and purest gold:
15智慧比珍珠还要宝贵;凡你所贪求的,都不足以与她伦比。 15She is more precious than all riches: and all the things that are desired, are not to be compared with her.
16在她右边是延年益寿,在她左边是富贵荣华。 16Length of days is in her right hand, and in her left hand riches and glory.
17她的道路是康乐之道,她的行径是一片安宁。 17Her ways are beautiful ways, and all her paths are peaceable.
18她为掌握她的人,是一株生命树;凡坚持她的,必将纳福。 18She is a tree of life to them that lay hold on her: and he that shall retain her is blessed.
19上主以智慧奠定了大地,以睿智坚定了高天; 19The Lord by wisdom hath founded the earth, hath established the heavens by prudence.
20赖他的智识,深渊才裂口喷水,云彩才降下甘露。 20By his wisdom the depths have broken out, and the clouds grow thick with dew.
21我儿,你应保持明智和慎重,不要让她们离开你的视线: 21My son, let not these things depart from thy eyes: keep the law and counsel:
22二者应是你心灵的生命,是你颈项的华饰; 22And there shall be life to thy soul, and grace to thy mouth.
23这样,你走路必感安全,你的脚不致绊倒。 23Then shalt thou walk confidently in thy way, and thy foot shall not stumble:
24你若坐下,必无所恐惧;你若躺下,必睡得甘甜。 24If thou sleep, thou shalt not fear: thou shalt rest, and thy sleep shall be sweet.
25你决不怕骤然而来的恐怖,也不怕恶人突然而至的摧残, 25Be not afraid of sudden fear, nor of the power of the wicked falling upon thee.
26因为上主将要护佑你,使你的脚远离陷阱。 26For the Lord will be at thy side, and will keep thy foot that thou be not taken.
27你若有能力作到,不要拒绝向有求于你的人行善; 27Do not withhold him from doing good, who is able: if thou art able, do good thyself also.
28如果你能即刻作到,不要对你的近人说:「去!明天再来,我才给你。」 28Say not to thy friend: Go, and come again: and tomorrow I will give to thee: when thou canst give at present.
29几时你的近人安心与你居住,你不应暗算他。 29Practise not evil against thy friend, when he hath confidence in thee.
30若他人没有加害你,你不应与他无端争辩。 30Strive not against a man without cause, when he hath done thee no evil.
31不要羡慕强暴的人,更不要选择他的任何行径, 31Envy not the unjust man, and do not follow his ways:
32因为上主厌恶乖戾的人,挚爱正直的人。 32For every mocker is an abomination to the Lord, and his communication is with the simple.
33上主诅咒恶人的住宅,祝福义人的寓所。 33Want is from the Lord in the house of the wicked: but the habitations of the just shall be blessed.
34上主嘲弄好愚弄的人,却宠爱谦卑的人。 34He shall scorn the scorners, and to the meek he will give grace.
35智慧的人必承受尊荣,愚昧的人必蒙受羞辱。 35The wise shall possess glory: the promotion of fools is disgrace.
